of men aged 30 to 79 may have a low testosterone level.
A low laboratory value alone is not a diagnosis, however. Fatigue, lack of drive and declining libido are non-specific — which is why a deficiency often goes unrecognised or is attributed to something else.

0 / 25The AMS (Aging Males' Symptoms) questionnaire records symptoms, not hormone levels. A high score does not automatically indicate low testosterone — these symptoms can have many causes. Conversely, a low score does not rule a deficiency out. Only a medical assessment with two independent blood analyses can provide certainty.
How it works.
Everything online via Zoom. Sensitive data encrypted via HIN. Seven steps to a stable regimen.
Preparation
Immediately after booking you receive a questionnaire and a list of the required blood analyses by e-mail. We need these documents before the initial consultation.
Initial consultation
We discuss your symptoms and your laboratory findings, and decide whether you are a suitable candidate for TRT.
Confirming low testosterone
A single measurement is not conclusive. We therefore confirm the finding with a second, independent blood draw.
Discussing TRT
Once low testosterone is confirmed, we discuss the treatment options and the dosage — with thorough explanation, of course.
Starting TRT
The first prescription is sent electronically to your pharmacy. You also receive a tutorial video showing you how to administer the injection safely yourself.
First follow-up
Four weeks after starting therapy, a blood draw is followed by a review appointment. We discuss the course so far and your impressions, and check your testosterone level under TRT. If needed, we adjust the dose.
Follow-ups
Therapy is monitored and optimised every three months at first, then every six months once values are stable. We also issue repeat prescriptions at these appointments.
Three specialties. One consultation.
An interdisciplinary team specialising in testosterone replacement therapy: internal medicine, angiology and general practice. We involve whichever specialty your case calls for.

Dr. med. Marlena Müller
Specialist in internal medicineHormones cannot be seen, yet they explain the world – or at least a good part of it!
I am a specialist in internal medicine and, in my endocrinological work, continually fascinated by the influence hormones have on our lives. It matters to me to identify conditions that can be traced back to hormonal disorders.
Low testosterone often goes unrecognised, or is left untreated even when diagnosed. Other conditions such as metabolic syndrome are closely linked to hormone balance and can substantially affect testosterone levels. A careful assessment is therefore essential. Beyond making the correct diagnosis, it matters to me to offer treatment tailored to any accompanying conditions.

Dr. med. Andreas Gutwein
Specialist in angiology and internal medicineThe challenges of men's health, such as low testosterone and erectile dysfunction, are often treated as taboo in everyday clinical practice, by patients and physicians alike. Men with symptoms frequently endure a long ordeal before the underlying problem is correctly identified and treated. This often has serious consequences for those affected and for the people around them.
My aim is to address the taboos surrounding men's health. Alongside building and running a men's health clinic at a central hospital, I am committed to advancing research in this field. Through our experience and collaboration, we hope to give our patients access to a broad network of specialists and to offer men with symptoms rapid, targeted treatment.

Dr. med. univ. Gabor Csiky-Strauss
General practitionerI work as a general practitioner and site director in Lenzburg (AG), Olten (SO) and Obergösgen (SO). Hormone replacement therapy for men has always fascinated me.
Regrettably, this important field was part of neither the university curriculum nor specialist training. Doctors are trained primarily to treat illness. Preventing disease and, above all, improving quality of life have been pushed firmly into the background.
In my three general practices I have successfully treated more than 300 men with testosterone replacement therapy. Many of them would otherwise have received no appropriate treatment for their varied symptoms — or worse, the wrong one, such as antidepressants.
Online. But firmly rooted.
A network of four general practices in Aargau and Solothurn, an angiology practice and a Swiss laboratory. The consultation runs by video — the medicine behind it has addresses.

Treatment & effect
At what testosterone level is TRT recommended?
There is no single cut-off value. Every patient is assessed individually together with their history. The testosterone value does not have to be clearly below the reference range — a value in the low-normal range can be enough.
At what age is TRT recommended?
There is no minimum age; every case is assessed individually. We also see very low values in young men that call for testosterone replacement therapy. If you have typical symptoms, get tested.
Do you also prescribe gel or tablets?
We prescribe testosterone only as an injection. Tablets are not approved in Switzerland, and gels cause fluctuations in hormone levels. Injections allow constant, precise and straightforward dosing.
Do you also prescribe Nebido or Testogel?
In our experience, Testoviron has proven advantageous in many respects. We therefore recommend it as our first choice.
How often does testosterone need to be injected?
For an optimal result, testosterone should be injected at least twice a week. We recommend a schedule of every two days as standard.
Do the injections hurt?
The self-injection is given just under the skin, directly into the fatty tissue. The insulin needle is barely noticeable.
Will I be shown how to administer the injections myself?
Of course. We provide a video tutorial for this.
Are there any side effects?
At conventional doses, side effects are extremely rare. The distinction matters: we treat a deficiency — unlike anabolic steroid abuse, where ten times the therapeutic dose is often taken alongside other substances.
Are there any contraindications?
Yes. The most important are prostate cancer and a known elevation of red blood cells. The latter can be corrected by blood donation or venesection.
Will I remain fertile on testosterone replacement therapy?
Testosterone replacement therapy can affect fertility. Under therapy, the body's own testosterone production is reduced, which can lower sperm production. In some cases this is temporary, in others permanent.
If you wish to have children, it is important to consult a fertility clinic before starting therapy — for individual advice and possible measures to preserve fertility, such as sperm freezing.
Can you also prescribe hCG?
We do not offer hCG therapy as standard. On explicit request, hCG can be considered in selected cases, for example with marked testicular atrophy under TRT.
Can I stop the therapy later on?
Therapy can be stopped at any time. There are a few things to consider, which we will discuss together.
Costs
How much does the testosterone preparation cost per month?
Testoviron costs roughly CHF 30–50 per month depending on the dose. Single-use materials such as syringes, needles and skin disinfectant are additional. Health insurers do not cover these costs.
What medical fees should I expect?
Our fees for reaching a stable setting are made up as follows:
- Initial consultation: CHF 200
- Setup package: CHF 500
- Follow-up checks in the first year: three checks at CHF 100 each
Medical fees in the first year: CHF 1000. From the second year onwards checks take place every three months — that comes to CHF 400 a year. Where values are particularly stable, half-yearly checks are sufficient. Questions outside a consultation are billed at CHF 40.
Which costs do I bear myself, and which does health insurance cover?
You pay for the consultations and the testosterone yourself; these are not insured services. Blood draws can be carried out at your family doctor's practice, where health insurance usually covers the cost. Walk-in laboratories are not covered without a medical referral. Alternatively, we carry out blood draws at our own practices.
Process & practical matters
How long do consultations last?
A standard consultation lasts 15 minutes.
Where can the blood draw take place?
Primarily at your family doctor's practice, where basic insurance usually covers the cost. Alternatively at a walk-in laboratory near you — though without a medical referral these costs are not covered. We do not issue referrals to third-party providers for blood draws.
Blood draws can also be carried out at our general practices. We have two locations, in Lenzburg and Olten. Health insurers usually cover these costs, depending on your insurance model.
Can consultations also take place in person?
No, consultations take place exclusively by telemedicine via Zoom.
How do I receive the prescriptions?
Prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy by encrypted e-mail. Testoviron is available on prescription only.
Which analyses do you need?
We generally require the following analyses, no more than three months old:
Complete blood count, CRP, ferritin, TSH, total and calculated free testosterone, SHBG, albumin, FSH, LH, oestradiol, prolactin, liver values (AST, ALT, GGT, ALP) and creatinine.
May I carry testosterone in my luggage when travelling?
Yes. To date there has not been a single incident where patients had difficulties. On request we issue a medical certificate in English.
I am already on TRT. Can you continue my care?
Yes, that is entirely possible — including a change of preparation. Please book an initial consultation.
I do not live in Switzerland or have Swiss health insurance. Can I still become a patient?
Although consultations are a pure self-pay service, we can only treat patients with valid Swiss health insurance.
